I’ve come to the realization that my conception of work needs some tweaking. Part of it is oriented to saving my sanity and another part toward working productively in the future. So let me introduce my new technical theme.
I still want Tessellations to be about tech, but it’s going to be more of a reorientation towards the ethics of STEAM and guidance for younger folks who are still in school and early in the profession. As usual, I will concentrate of elements of wisdom, humor, humility and discovery but it will be more towards the social purposes of maintaining those values for the betterment of society in a more direct way than via the profession and formal education. In other words, I believe there is a culture of STEAM that has a more proper emphasis on civilizational values than can be gotten absent the disciplines of STEAM. So this is about the culture of STEAM. Consider the following video.
That’s a short version.
If you want to understand at a deep level where I’m heading and what my motivations ultimately are, then the best place to start and end is with Karl Popper.
My aim is to cultivate the discipline and hard work necessary to learn things that are fundamental to our society and civilization. I believe that comprehensive networking is required to enable and accelerate this process, and specifically I don’t want parents to burn themselves out in order to get their children exposure to STEAM and lifelong learning.
That’s the LA STEAM project and this spot, Tessellations, is the interim networking place for us to discuss and plan, review and revise, share and share alike.
